Schiermonnikoog can only be reached by ferry or water taxi. The ferry departs from the harbor of Lauwersoog and takes about 45 minutes to make the crossing. The timetable is as follows:

If you come to Schiermonnikoog by car, you can park in one of the parking lots at the harbor of Lauwersoog. It is not permitted to take a car to the island. This is only possible if you have a permit.

If you come using public transportation, you can take the bus to Lauwersoog from Groningen train station (bus 163) or Leeuwarden train station (bus 155). The arrival times of these buses connect well with the ferry timetable.

Once you arrive on the island, there are buses or taxis available to take you the rest of the way to your destination. To reach our house, the best option is to take bus 1 in the direction of Strandhotel and get of at the stop Langestreek / Molendyk. From there, it is a few minutes’ walk to our house. During the summer months, it is also possible to rent a bicycle on arrival on the island and cycle into the village.
